PROJECT CHINATOWN EXPLAINED

The Sound Agents have been successful with funding applications for an exciting new development; RADIO CHINATOWN a modular project under the umbrella name PROJECT CHINATOWN, conceived, delivered and curated by Mr Campbell and Ms Kenny using rigorous research methods as a factor to produce exceptional public art works

The aim of Radio Chinatown is to create a series of production workshops and set up an on-line Home Service Radio Station. A bit like The Kitchen Sisters, Lost and Found Sound and a little bit like STAR Radio and even more like Mass Observation.

Mr C and Ms K will document the workshops using photography to animate the public spaces during Chinese New Year 2012 to develop progression routes for further cultural activity providing opportunity for people to take notice and connect.

PROJECT CHINATOWN includes working with British Documentary and Magnum Photographer Martin Parr in Liverpool, and an oral history of the people in Martin Parr’s Chinatown photographs taken in 1984 application to HLF. Billboard size photographs will be hung from the staircase in the Dome of the Black-E during a week-long exhibition during Chinese New Year week of 23 January 2012.

A professional photographer’s exhibition showing their best shots will be included in the project and a free Chinatown magazine will be distributed.

As far as projects go this is going to be the best yet with Mr C and Ms K keeping a artists diary along the way and Tweets in between.

The Sound Agents are working in partnership with BBC Radio Merseyside.
