Biography

Judy Ling Wong CBE, painter, poet and environmentalist, is best known as a major voice on policy towards social inclusion and an integrative approach to environmental participation, bringing together social, cultural, environmental and economic concerns. She is the Honorary President of Black Environment Network, with an international reputation as the pioneer in the field of ethnic participation in the built and natural environment.

Judy has received many Honours in recognition of her contribution, including OBE for pioneering ethnic environmental participation, CBE for services to heritage and Honorary PhD from the University of Gloucestershire.

Judy was a professional Chinese traditional painter at the age of 12 in Hong Kong, and came to the West as a painter and poet. In 1977, she became the first woman in the history of China to be Master of the 3 Arts – painting, calligraphy and the carving of seals. It was a shock to everyone when she abandoned a successful blossoming artistic career in her thirties to turn towards social commitment. She has always been one who goes my own way. At this stage of her life, she continues to contribute to key environmental agendas, but in recent years, is giving time to return to her arts.
