THE ART OF LIVING

The Sound Agents successfully raised funds to celebrate Liverpool stories through oral history connecting with elderly residents to create local radio and theatre performances. The first play celebrates the Life and Times of Artist Model, Miss Amy June Furlong.

The project was put on hold while they cared for Miss Furlong during a long illness and her move to a nursing home where she sadly died. Over a period of two years Moira Kenny recorded Miss Furlongs stories about her life as an artists model and her thoughts and fears on losing her independence, challenges that came through needing professional care and leaving the house she had lived in, 58 Falkner Street for 90 years.

The Sound Agents have saved documents, photographs, private letters, payslips and work correspondence for a potential Archive of an amazing woman who hitchhiked to Paris at the age of 20 living on £20 and occasional modelling before she moved to London to work in the Slade and the Royal Academy of Arts.

The Art of Living developed into a Trilogy. The First play focusses on Miss Furlongs early years in London, the Second play on the Liverpool Art School and her friendship with John Lennon when his mother Julia was killed and the Third play on her Liverpool stories, moving to a care home.

The Sound Agents received a commission from the Liverpool Irish Festival and the Irish Embassy's 2020 fund to produce the First play of The Life and Times of Miss Amy June Furlong. Written by Moira Kenny, Actor Eithne Browne is the voice of Miss Furlong and John J. Campbell is producing the audio/visuals for a YouTube video. The play is 30 minutes duration.

The Irish Festival will create a live premiere of the film on their Facebook channel on the 1st February and on to the Festival website.

Thank you to everyone who supported and pledged on SpaceHive for Miss Furlong and The Art of Living project and Crowdfund Liverpool for their generous donation.
